DIDIAYER: When it comes to making slip covers, they're pretty easy to make. It just takes a bit of time to construct them. The best thing to start off with is the chair that you want to cover. And do a diagram of each panel that you are wanting to put together. So, there are seven pieces. There is the back, the face, the sides, the seat, and the front. And by doing a diagram and taking your tape measure, you can simply go ahead and measure each of those angles. Now here's a tip when it comes to fabric, go ahead and pre-wash your fabric. You want to make sure that it is washed because it will shrink once you wash this slip cover. Before you cut all of your pieces, you want to make sure that you leave at least an inch. That way you can go ahead and sew all the seams and know that you h...

We returned to Amish Country and my favorite fabric store, (Zinck's Fabric Outlet) in, Goodville (Lancaster County) PA, searching for inexpensive reupholstery fabric for my dining room chairs and window curtains. I found some great frugal buys on beautiful fabric and hope to get them done before Thanksgiving! (the cover photo shows the true blue/green/gold colors. For some reason the camera put weird orange, copper and bright yellow on some shots!) #reupholster #sewing #zinck'sFabricOutlet #fabricoutlet #reupholstery #LancasterPA
Hi Homebodies. I'm super excited about this week's tidbit - DIY Pottery Barn Inspired Slipcover - made out of a dropcloth. I love the casual, coastal feel of a loose fitting slipcover and I've had my eye on one that Pottery Barn sells for quite some time. But, being the frugal fanatic that I am, I knew there had to be a cheaper way of getting the look...and yes, there is. While strolling threw the painting section at Home Depot (while shopping for other materials for future tidbits), I came across the canvas dropcloths used for painting. They're washable and reusable. A 9'x12' dropcloth cost $42.00....and it looks just like the Pottery Barn slipcover. So away home I went with my new dropcloth slipcover. And I have to say I love the way it looks...did I mention how cheap it was? $42.00......
